"Whether we bring our enemies to justice, or bring justice to our enemies---justice will be done." Micron pen, first attempt at an avian morph. I may do more to this one...
Acrylic painting on canvas board. An Alaskan timber wolf howls from atop a fallen and decaying totem. He seems to be lamenting the loss of the Old Ways and tradition, from the midst of the remnants of a ruined Haida village. I'm not happy with the brown wolf on the ground... he looks more dog-like.
"Salmon Leaping by the Moonlight". Another new and improved (?) version of a pen-and-ink done a while back. Based on Haida art. Acrylics on parchment.
"O' Lenny, we hardly knew thee!" It's an old gag; I found this on my hard drive, which I drew for giggles last year. If you don't understand the image, you haven't been listening three hours a day. ;-D
Is it just me, or did Heckle & Jeckle look more like a couple of crows? Acrylics on watercolour greeting card. Magpies are actually very attractive birds. I keep hoping to find one of those gorgeous blue-green tailfeathers during my hikes in Washington's woods, but no luck yet!
Major Arcana 0 "The Fool", with much symbolism. Part of my arduous ongoing project.
Another painted feather with yet another cougar. Denim mats with a Southwestern cut... and a digital chink in the middle due to the thing being too large for the scanner bed. :-P
Just playing, loose pencil-sketch. A bobcat, free-climbing. Experimentation in characters, for an upcoming commission.
As the early morning sun gently brushes the highland meadows, a group of mule deer venture out of the woods to enjoy the sun's warmth. Just one of *many* feathers I've been working on, though this one's been painted on a bit more since this file was made.
An older piece, December last year. Not my usual style, hopefully not *too* cornball cartoony. Coloured pencil. Yeah, I know... I'm a few dogs short on teams! ;oP Mush!
It's Niki, the Siberian tiger at Tiger Touch! Acrylics on peahen tailfeather. One of two feathers to be in the charity auction at FurCon.
Poor pooch! Micron pen, with acrylics handled loosely like watercolours.
A killer of a stipple project... "At Your Service" in .005 Micron on 11" X 14" Bristol. I thought I'd never finish it.
Just an inked doodle for fun. Ya, I know... the diamond shape is off, so I'll end up redoing it. I can't help this, but...Go, Mariners!! Hey, 'tis the season! ;-)
Just a quickie...could have been tighter. An original Haida-style killer whale, acrylics painted on wood. Wood was "stained" with thinned acrylic paint.
Practice with a #2 pencil and a smudge stick. Reducing the file size also reduced an obscene amount of the detail, even though this file is still rather large. I'm not entirely sure of her species... a deer/mountain sheep morph, perhaps?
Another sent to Alaska... the Alaskan State bird, the Willow Ptarmigan. Here is a pair, still in their "summer dress", amongst the lowbush blueberries.
Puffins! Not many birds out there more clownish-looking than a Puffin. :o) One feather out of oodles bound for Alaska this Spring. Acrylics on peacock feather...scan came out weird as far as the clour of the sea is concerned.
A pair of ring-necked pheasants carefully inspect their surroundings before venturing out onto the open meadows. Acrylics on peahen feather.
It's a lousy scan compared to the detail and color values in the original. Coloured pencil. This odd-looking craft is a Vickers Viking, built in 1925 and used by the RAF and RCAF. The airmen in this particular plane? Airdales, of course! ;o)
"Raven and the First Men". This is based on the Haida creation story and is a re-do of a similar pen-and-ink drawing I did a while back. Acrylics on parchment.
From Haida legend: Raven, alone on the beach, found an enormous clamshell. It was partially open, and Raven could see humans peering from within. Raven encouraged them to come out and join him in his world. Hesitantly, they emerged and became the first Haida. Micron pen drawing.
Haida creation stories. This is a page from "Raven Steals The Sun", in watercolour and acrylics, with Photoshop text. I hope it isn't too difficult to read.
They're telling us not to dwell on what happened. America needs to pick up and carry on. Easier said...
Acrylics on watercolour card. Special project I was working on. I wish I had the time to correct the little anatomical errors on the blood bay before things had to be sent...ah, well. Mount Ranier in the background, as was sketched from the end of my street.
Hmm...a little nauseating, ain't it? A ring-tailed cat picking moonflowers. Yet another in coloured pencil, and this one came out a tad more syrupy than I intended. Good for about age 4, I guess! For furry pics, I'm not really putting them on my Geocities site anymore, but you can find them at Fur Nation under Alaska_Kat! ;o)
After reading up on the art and culture of the ancient Scythians of the Russian and Mongolian Steppes, I was compelled to try a leopard in Scythian battle dress. Leopards, stags, and eagles were the animals most frequently used in ancient Scythian art.
Painted peacock feather. A hungry bobcat sneaks up on his prey.
a wolf and her cub in the cold winter moonlight.
Acrylics on 9 X 12 Bristol... a skunkette enjoying the song of a nearby bluebird. Ech, I think I'm spending too much time in the garden! :-P
