Surf-Ark here is a very outgoing, but naive seahorse. After a particularly wild party, Arkie realized the reason he should have paid attention in biology class, with regards to his species. The poor dumbnut is currently 6 months along. (And yes, if you're wondering, this is a very tongue-in-cheek character. The movie Junior still gives me nightmares!) Anyway, Ark Illions is my little prank creation. *hide* :>
Arkie Illions again, this time with the "softer" color scheme I was originally attempting. I think he was too green in the previous version. He is almost certainly daydreaming about food.
The two title characters of Vinci & Arty, presumably after a long day of consuming Krispy Kreme donuts and shinee objects. Man, I feel so nervous posting here, but.. gotta keep practicing and trying new stuff!
Here's a nearly finished pic I did to flesh out my newest fuzzball, Carry-On the joey. She's reminiscent of Haley personality-wise, except she's a lot more coherant, a lot less hyper, and a bit more devious. She's a greedy little entrepreneur; her pasttime is stealing anything she can stuff in her pouch, and trying to sell it back. Why's there a zipper on there? Because it's cliche. :>
A work in progress. I wanted to challenge myself, trying to work with more dynamic poses, work on my anatomy and construction, and experiment with different styles. I realize there are a lot of proportion/perspective errors in this one (as I upload this I'm fixing Vinci's arm), but I was hoping if I stuck this up here, I could get some advice, so that the finished product with all 8 Guardians will look ok. Emails, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying hard to better my work. <=)
Custard is a new character, a cross between a raccoon and a monarch butterfly (don't ask, I dunno either, really). He doesn't have wings, and isn't sure if he ever will, but he's young yet, and his back tends to get pretty sore, so who knows? I guess that makes him a raccoonerpillar right now, then. :>.. Tried a new coloring technique with this'un.. not sure if it's the final version yet.
By day, Custard is a mild mannered bugmammal. By night.. Iron Chef Monarchoon. Baker of assorted goodies that look disgusting, but taste great! Really! Honest they do! Ah, but he doesn't care if he's a good cook, all he obsesses about is the fact that he Can't Fly. Wotta pessimist.
Was talking to starfallz the other day about how I couldn't figure out anything interesting to do with a fox or wolf character, and BAM, this guy suddenly popped into my head and hasn't let me alone since! Hanabi, aka Fireworks is a cross between a wolf and an asian dragon. I tried to incorporate some of the mythology in as well, such as the pearl he's always clutching, and though he has four wolfish fingers, he only has claws on three, which is significant in that the # of toes/claws reveals the location/origin of the dragon. I think. I probably just butchered that. x.x
I apologize, but this is raw emotion on an issue I feel strongly about. Please don't let a faceless corporation tell you you're not good enough (but you CAN be if you buy such-and-such! Give us moolah!). It saddens me when I see kids as young as eight walking around the mall worried about their weight and comparing themselves to others. Here, Vinci is choking on the messages the media sends out.. ones that aren't necessarily true. You Are Great The Way You Are, No Matter What.
This was fun! Abigail is a lemurwolf lady who is showing her kitty, Willow, how she can make zappy purple stuff from that cool lil' black wand of hers. They both belong to the wonderful Lemurkat, who runs the furartxchange communities on LJ. This one was done for FAX2. :).. Col-erase pencils (thankies starfallz!)
Ok. So neither of us are perfect. We're both goofballs. He's stoic, I'm neurotic. We're scraggly. I'm disease-ridden, he's outta shape. But it doesn't matter, really, cause together, we can fly. A work in progress, mock it if you will, but I'm proud of it. Even the beginners pour their heart and soul into pics, folks. Remember that. <=)...And apologies for the mushiness. Don't like it, avert your eyes. >=D
Ghira here was created out of my homesickness for California. Don't get me wrong, I love Virginia and all, but the Bay Area was my home, y'know? And S.F.'s Chinatown holds a special place in my heart. I have fond memories of dim sum with my grandma, watching parades with Geners and KevinJ, the like. So here's Ghira, at Grant n' Bush, playing with a carp kite (Japanese, yes, but they do sell them all over Chinatown!). Inks, fooped with Photoshop 'till I attack this piece with color.
A little style experimentation with a new character for a story I'm working on. Ghirardelli, despite having the name of a different San Fran landmark, is from Chinatown, and loves the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Thus, he's quite nervous whenever he's alone... This is a work in prog; hoping to get hints and tips for a dark alleyway background for the final. :>. I also tried to exaggerate Ghira's scrawniness.
I worked hard on this one, so I really hope y'all like it. <=)..Soon to be colored pic of Ryan's Guardians exploring a cave. Timebase in front, flanked by his protector, Vinci, Synda and Duncan, Delilah, Grimm, Prissy, and a watchful Halona bringing up the rear. Drew this cause a certain folf has been really bummed lately, and I felt bad. I hope this helps a bit, RyRy. <=)
Character sketches to flesh out the charismatic Graham Fidelis, a tycoon (that's tiger-raccoon, mind you!) who is incredibly strong and healthy save for the obvious, but keeps finding his dreams of being a firefighter dashed. The little crab-eating raccoon is his buddy Ghirardelli, who doesn't realize he is highly empathic and can actually read people's emotions, even when they aren't outwardly displaying them. Ink n' color coming soon. <:)
Color version of that ol' ink illo that was sold at FC. Thanks! I had a wonderful time at the con...but damnit, I DON'T squeak when I laugh! Spino, don't point your Nerf at me! Feel the wrath of my chillachillas, Geners! And beware Tet's driving.
Just a silly little holiday image. :)..Colored pencil and scrapbook paper. The background is far more glittery in person. It's that shinee obsession, dontchaknow. Believe it or not, Vinci is actually the Grinch of the pair when it comes to the holiday season. He doesn't mind Christmas, but "Why does eet have to be so COLD here?" Everyone here said I'd hate snow after the first blizzard and I scoffed at them. Now that I've discovered driving in it, I'm afraid they were right. :)
Fender, a dear friend who takes time out of the week to letter V&A for me, also has colored various bits of lineart, such as this snippet from one of the interlude strips. It's a more recent version of Trixi, plotting evil as usual.0_ :)
I think this collab is from last Sept's picnic-ey goodness. The sketch was my fault, and the awesome inkage is by the amazing NeoGeen. The character is my asian dragon/wolf cross thing, of whom I cannot decide on an appropriate color scheme. He goes by either Fireworks or Hanabi, depending on which you like best.
Another feeble attempt to mix cartooning and scrapbooking! gasp! egad! Embellishments courtesy of Jolee's, textured papers courtesy of the paper store in Chantilly, easily distracted raccoon uncourteously provided by myself. Hope this is ok for Yerf. Sorry!
A small montage of practice sketches for Mr. Nicolaides. The screaming Vinci is the "normal" look, but since he had his head shaved recently in V&A, I've been drawing him with the buzzcut more often than not. What looks to be "PPP" is actually meant to be "RRRR!" in Greek. Just me bein' silly. :).. I think my fave out of this batch is the "OPA!" pose, though I'd be very worried as to the fact that he looks to be baking (he's a horrid, HORRID cook. :> )
I was really trying hard to get a lot of motion in this one. I also have really had a lot of trouble with keeping my colored pencils from gunking up so I wanted to practice hatching. At any rate, it was fun. I hope this is ok. :).. Vinci's hair is actually gone still, but I couldn't picture this scene without his braids and curls in the wind. Colored pencil, glittery scrapbook paper background, and a nice cozy perch by the fireplace. (And Happy Birthday, Geners!)
A work in progress which will indeed have a background, else I'll go nuts. Hrul is a character based on the old wolf-in-sheep's-clothing pun. She's a sheep who is utterly convinced that she's actually a werewolf, and God help you if you try to argue otherwise with her. The type whom no one takes seriously but herself. I'm just starting with digitigrade legs, as you can see, so if you've got any advice, please lemme know. <:>
Dingo, I want your manbabies. A little marker experimentation on gray paper. Vinci. 30's style, somewhat. He's most likely running from the wrath of the collective Estrogen Table group. Dumb raccoon. :>
