Genesis - Dated 11/15/2000 - Another piece of older art I discovered, this time a full-on colored pencil rendering (8 1/2 x 11 inches) of an old Role Play character (ah, sweet Sci-Fi) which was done on some sandy-colored cardstock. "Genesis maintains a solemn look as she glances to the viewer while sitting, looking out into space." Enjoy the time capsule!

Raven - 12/01/2000 An even more ancient piece of art, this time done for a close friend. He used to have an old MUD alf-elf druid ranger named "Raven," logic dictated he should also have that character BE an anthro raven, and hence he bends a knee in solitude to some magic fae. The Watchers, Dated 2/17/2001, is a mixed media goulache done in one sitting from a bygone (amateur) era complete with curiously "hidden" hands, lack of fabric reference, and cringeable perspective. Yet it also goes to show how far you can go in 4 years when you put your mind to it. :) Check out that aweful self-portrait. *shudder*

This had been one of my first big tests of Photoshop, and I'm only somewhat pleased as a result. Next time I'll use a real reference for the elf/human. ~_~

This dragon is from way back in January of 2003, and was a quick doodle (meaning, about 5-10 minutes or less) I drew freehand in brown pen on a piece of printer paper only to use water to make the non-waterproof ink "bleed" and then toy with it with a dabble of gouache and a marker background. Nothing special, but I like how it flows. I need to do more stuff like this. ~_~

OpenCanvas (Digital)~ 3/14/03 Hour sketch: This little study was inspired by the song "Greenwaves," by Secret Garden, whose peaceful melody kept me company and gave me hope during a really tricky time. Though it is hard to tell, those are indeed two gryphons, waiting and watching as a misty storm rolls in. I don't usually upload my more "emotional" pieces, but in this case I made an exception, and I hope you enjoy it.

Instead she must mask her identity in all array of enchantments from those that would otherwise harm her. This was a commission done for Acyd as a gift to her husband-to-be of two swing-dancing lemurs with extra fluffy tails and wedding rings. :) This was done in dark brown non-waterproof ink and a dabble of acrylic. 11 X 14 (which is HUGE for me!) It's so much nicer IRL, but I really love how it turned out, and they did too. :)

A White Egret: This feather is extremely small (less than an inch and a half wide at its widest point!). What really took me some time on this piece was the hand-beaded base that goes all the way around the quill. From there dangles two additional strings of glass, sterling silver, and wooden beads, which ends in two tin cones and 7 inch long pieces of chocolate brown wild horse hair (I was told by a native american friend that wild horses have better magic). The scans/photos killed all the pretty colors I blended in with the white of egret, however. :-/

Lesson: Mixed Media isn't always the answer. Especially not on textured cardstock (I tried to watercolor it initially, but the paper wouldn't accept water right, so I instead was forced to use acrylic and cover up the drawing. Ah well. 9x12: will be for sale at AC.

This is framed in a really pretty golden oak deep shadowbox with velvel black backing, and is a single (really pretty, imho) feather painted with a harpy-eagle gryphon. The feather is around 8-9 inches long and is for sale still.

AC Conbadge Commission for Sha'leis (striped pantress thief). I'm glad I took some photos before I laminated it because it's impossible to capture the gold iridescence I added around the border, knife, and name once it was hot-press laminated. This is businesscard-size. O_o It was cross-hatched in pen and ink, then finished in marker, gouache, and iridescent gold acrylic.

I had info up for badges at a recent convention, but I never made any examples, so starting at 4am one morning while we waited in line for Artists' Alley, I worked on this for about an hour and a half (much less time than most of my conbadges average (8-10 hours). The anatomy is wonky, and it's very "eh," but I like it. It served it's purpose, it did. This is businesscard-size. O_o It was cross-hatched in pen and ink, then finished in marker and gouache. This was one another of the badges I did at AC. "Bounder" is a medium-grey 2-tailed kitsune with some very unusual markings and attire, and I had a lot of fun doing it (even if trying to get it and the laminator at the same place at once was a bit of a trick). This one was an AC Conbadge Commission for Tizzrah, a gothic skunk with red hair, rats, and a lot of piercings. I used some cool silver pen for the jewelry and some of the text, but since I laminated it, there is an awful glare along the left side, and really no way to do the silver, or the picture itself justice. This is also business card sized, and made my brain explode from all the cross-hatching, but I like how it turned out, even if I couldn't find a 005 silver pen to work with. This tiny little fennec fox is so small IRL it would fit on a 3 inch by 5 inch notecard with room to spare. Apparently my scanner still won't pick up light shading, so it seems all of the detail on this was lost, bleh. At least you can see the shadow on the rocks the critter casts, and the hard outline I had to draw around him so he even showed up. O_o

Winter Wolf - This is a Three-Feather Fan Completed for the AC'04 Artshow, and my favorite 3-Feather fan yet. :) Around him/her are some Kymba-style celtic-knotwork adorned with various feathers which were painted onto a handcrafted, varnished Oak handle made by my Fiance. The handle was wrapped in white deerhide and trimmed with Hemitite, sinew, glass, metal, and bone, as well as hybrid speckled Palm Turkey feathers. Immitation wolf fur is from a unique, double-layer select rabbit fur. Commission Inquiries Welcome, as always. :)

I'm very pleased with how this turned out, although it scanned horribly so I had to photograph it instead, which meant the linework looks more "grey" than black, but ah well: now off to laminated it! :) -Kymba

Conbadge for Vish ~ Many times acutal size and lots of crosshatching later... Fun details include: his personal necklace, a book of "Lore" as well as a book on "Wolves" and "Culture of Canines." A moonlit and candlelit summer night on a comfy leather easy-chair. :) There's even a little owl in the tree outside and a golden howling wolf figurine on the marble end-table beside him. Too much composition for a conbadge, and I had to use "incorrect" perspective to make it all "fit" together. ;) -Kymba

An Anthro Barn Owl Woman seemed like a good idea at the time... but such an idea definitely needs refinement, and a load more time than I have at the moment. ^_~ For 20 minutes worth of work, I think it turned out decently. -Kymba Gold and silver gel pen (which scans poorly), and two colored pencils on dark navy cardstock. About 3 and 1/2 inches tall and wide.

This Anthro Barred Owl Woman Sketch went from mind to paper in only about an hour. It is again silver and gold gel pen on navy paper with a bit of colored pencil. Sadly, silver and gold gelpen scan to appear white and light yellow, but this piece kind of shimmers in real life, and I'm pretty pleased with it, especially since I didn't pre-sketch anything. :) It's a little larger than my last one: about 6 inches by 6 inches on a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 inch cardstock, and she's for sale if anyone is interested (30)
