< 3/5— Jennifer Sabado (Seth, Tora) —5/5 >
- Why do I have this horrible premonition that this is going to be me when college starts? Inspired by shaibloc.jpg, done by my friend Shai/Leda/Selfheal ad infinitum. ^^
- "Turn your thoughts away from the garish light of day, turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light. . . and listen to the music of the night. . ." - Andrew Lloyd Webber, Phantom of the Opera. I had a bit of time this weekend, and decided to fill it up a bit. A scene from a Halloween costume party - yeah, that's Is'khathi in that Phantom gear. I'm a little behind. . .
- *Finally*, my half of an art exchange with Puck Wills is finished and in color. I had entirely too much fun brushing on the brown edges to the fur (I imagine it shows), but I can't say I'm entirely sure about the background. Although Baymerk doesn't look entirely sure about my ability to draw him, either. I'm just a teense insecure at times, okay?
- Someone mentioned a race? Actually, these two are from something completely different - a pair of Mng'oaji warriors, charging forewards on warthogback. Tora is the porcupine on the left with her caracal-skin cloak and fire-hardened spear; Kitungule the cape hare on the right with his bow.
- "The river or swamp hippocampus, much slower and smaller than its marine relative, nonetheless fills an important niche in the riverine habitats that it inhabits by feeding on the numerous river plants that grow there. In turn, it often falls prey itself to deep swamp neodragons, large crocodiles, and other local predators. . ."
- A pair of Roani, seal-folk, showing off the open-mouth threat characterized by both Roani and normal seals (it's akin to people glaring or snapping at each other). The harp seal bull seems to be getting a little too close for the sea lion's taste.
- A marsupial lion and a mountain lion may be about as Filipino as couscous, but hey, we tend to import stuff from everywhere into our culture anyway (And then do things to them. Like Jeepneys). Here, Yellow3 and Brian Root's mountain lion character, Jonze, perform a traditional Igorot dance called Salip. To be replaced with a colored pencil version once I get that far.
- More woodkin! Three young sea people - Moray (the one with the abalone), Surfperch (the female), and Muskellunge (the other one). This rare race exists in only a few places. . . such as the ruins of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is where these three seem to be from. Long story. All Woodkin remain © me.
- A picture done some time ago, way back in the day, in a time known as last December. Brian Root's character, 910, often flicks his tongue out at Seth. Seth occasionally replies in kind.
- It's a beebee Liz! And, of course, her beau Seth, equally reduced to cubhood and apparently not eager to take the plunge into the air just yet. I seem to be susceptible to Ideas at the moment, and Liz Raiman - Liz's creator - is taking full advantage of this fact as of late. This cavity-inducing image is her fault, it is. Bad Liz.
- I swear he gets exponentially cuter every time I draw him.
- Not all weres need be hugely muscled and wearing only a ripped, scuzzy pair of pants, you know - nor even be land animals. Edward Seul the wereseal (leopard seal, to be exact) proves that - like the seal, his body is slender and designed for speed, with a lot of power concentrated in the head and jaws. He's actually rather dashing (in a manic, slavering way). He's either © me, the creator, or Kristin Jacques, the player. Dunno.
- Here stands the shadhavar, the beast with the beautiful song; its hollow horn plays a tune that draws all other animals close enough for it to slay and devour them. Only the cooing of the ringdove will quiet this monster, like any other unicorn native to Persia.
- . . . and somewhere, far off in the back, Shai and Kibeti follow their much faster protectors with their own pack-hog. Shai doesn't look particularly happy about this, either.
- Fear the octopine with the scaled-down escrima sticks! Drop shadows are not my friend.
- The strangest things happen in The Lion King MUCK's OOC Lounge, and this is one of them - a dik-dik (smallest African antelope) cooking a lioness for soup. Well, Neema said she was cold! But after Klipkop pitched her in and started adding veggies, all she did was scream. Neema is © her player, and Klipkop is mine.
- I'd intended to put this up earlier. These are two panels from a special page I did as a favor for "Spellshocked" featuring Thula, the character I created and gave them permission to use. . . I swear I actually managed to give myself cavities with these drawings. The whole page can be found in the archives (www.spellshocked.com/archive.html) under "Thula Special."
- Peter and Jason horsing around at the beach - Peter being the panda if you don't recall (who, even in the water, still wears that trademark bandanna), and Jason being the tall blue mackerel. Yes, as in fish. Possibly one in a series of summer pictures, now that my Senior summer begins to wind down. Not that it ever wound up much to begin with.
- Because I'm currently being sent up walls with Heroes of Might and Magic III's Dragonslayer campaign, I drew this. It's a swamp neodragon with a headpiece rather like the crests of HOMM's rust dragons, a body like a hippo's, flipperlike wings to steer as it swims, and a powerful tail to swim with. Instead of a breath weapon, it belches swamp water and muck dredged from the bottom. I drew its crest thing at a funny angle.
- Character sheet for Sarah Troutman of the character I designed for her. Since I was the one responsible for character design, I figured I was the one who should probably go nuts figuring out how she looks at various angles (and how those extra limbs attach and fold up) before anyone else went crazy trying. I also thought it might make up for the fact that it took me nearly a year to complete the request. Now, you too can draw little flame-faced tanamartens at home and all over everything! Have fun, Maui.
- After Epona was killed by a dragonslayer, an older relative - Tashtego - took Boadica and Omadon in (Seth was found by someone else). Here he is, looking really ticked and ready to defend his turf. Is it just me, or are my dragons getting more elaborate markings as time goes by?
- Calypso needed a new set of clothes for her new incarnation as a ship's engineer, and she seems quite pleased with the results. She doesn't look the same as her original picture, which bugs me a bit, but at least in this one you can see her freaky past-the-eyes smile.
- A meeting of opposites - sea and sky, earth and fire, male and female, warmth and coolness. For Sarah Troutman, who requested a pine marten mix when I met her nearly a year ago (that's her hybrid with the wings); I used a songbird instead of the requested parrot or parakeet, since I felt it blended better. Pine marten and black-eared tanager, least weasel and spotted eagle ray mix.
- Themba binti'Ifile, a cockatrice of about fourteen/fifteen, intended for a world more modern than the other ones I've drawn. More fooling around with heavy outlining, and proof that you can draw something female without much of a chest. Besides, at that age, even mammals don't really have 'em. . .
- Artist's block isn't just bad for drawing, but for coloring to boot. Completed at last, almost two months after inking, is _Therizinosaurus cheloniformis_. I think I have a new favorite dinosaur. Don't fear the reaper!
- What could be more wholesome than a girl. . . er. . . teenage necromancer and her horribly undead puppy? Thula (the black cockatrice) and Fluffy (the puppy-like flesh golem) are both characters of mine that allow for endless opportunities at black humor. And I use them, yes. Muahahaha.
- Thula, my teenage cockatrice necromancer, summoning will-o'-wisps. Thanks to MoRBiD (darn you and your odd capitalization, Gus) for the background and nifty lens-flare effects.
- I drew this last spring, but apparently never got around to uploading. A black-and-white image of Thula somli:Ixesha, redesigned to look a little more like she does when drawn by Mark Freid for Spellshocked, playing with a cluster of will-o'-wisps.
- Now that midterms are over, I'm finally starting to catch up on a slight backlog. This character is Trifari - a dragon/horse hybrid archer, done as half of an art exchange with her creator.
- Some adorable little unnamed unicorn colt with a butterfly on his horn.
